I’m happy to work with authors involved in most genres of writing, from fantasy and poetry to scholarly articles and nature guides. If I have any limitations or concerns regarding your content, I’ll let you know in my response email.
Project Management
Helping you organize your next big idea.
One of the most difficult parts of writing is consistency. To help authors get started, I host short meetings as needed to help them create project timelines, set realistic writing goals, plot their story beats, and find a balance between productivity and rest.
These meetings can be either in-person (for local authors in Bellingham or Seattle) or over Zoom. If you’re requesting another project with me, I will include up to four hours of in-person meetings for free.

Developmental Editing
Strengthening the bones of your project.
This kind of editing focuses on the big picture and is usually the first type of editing authors seek. It can create immense structural change in your writing and challenge aspects of your plot or characters you may not have considered before.
Authors who request developmental editing will receive an initial meeting and a follow-up meeting (up to two hours each), a 5-page feedback letter summarizing major points, and margin comments on their submitted draft. I prefer to edit full drafts at this phase, but if an author is seeking feedback on a specific part of their work, I’m willing to discuss that.

Line Editing
Challenging style choices on a smaller scale.
Line editing is exactly what it sounds like: going through your work line-by-line and making sure everything flows smoothly. I will make notes on awkward prose, repetitive phrasing, unrealistic dialogue, and other issues with writing style.
Authors who request developmental editing will receive an initial meeting and a follow-up meeting (up to two hours each) and margin comments on their submitted draft.

Proofreading
Smoothing out the grammatical kinks.
If you request proofreading, I will focus entirely on correcting technical issues. I won’t comment on word choice, factual inaccuracies, inconsistent details, or anything similar. This is the last stage of editing and the finished product should be free of any grammatical errors.
Authors who request proofreading will receive an initial meeting and a follow-up meeting (up to one hour each) and margin comments on their submitted draft.
